When I first started Dr. Clarke's course, I had just gone back to work after being off for 2 months. During the two months, I had been going through what I learned was a "fibromyalgia crash". In her course Dr. Clarke taught me many things that have helped me through the next couple of years. I learned how to watch for the symptoms of fibromyalgia and how to read what my body was trying to tell me. I now know the importance of when to slow down, when to say "no" and when to take time for myself. I also try not to be such a perfectionist. It was very interesting to learn about how fibromyalgia affects the body and how important it is to be very careful what goes into your body (drugs and food). I now find myself using more naturopathic ingredients (vitamins and minerals), meditation and mild exercise to control my symptoms. Stress and lack of sleep are such big influences on people with fibromyalgia and Dr. Clarke's course really helped me to learn how to deal with these factors. Over the past 2 years, I have been virtually pain and drug free. I have had a few "flare ups" but have learned to recognize when they are happening and how to control them. I highly recommend her course as it helped me tremendously to learn how to deal with my illness.

The fibromyalgia program offered by Dr. Clarke is very comprehensive. It helps a person first realize that they are not alone with this illness and most important it is treatable for those who are willing to put to practice the tools offered and the approaches given, especially around exercise, nutrition and attitude. The added element of benefit is the pain control techniques where you could gain relief from several different methods. Finally the group exchange adds ideas and moral support to people who are misunderstood and often lonely and frustrated with the problems created. Overall the program empowers you to help yourself.

I have appreciated the course for fibromyalgia so much. It has given
me hope. It is very much a journey, a process of learning what is
good for me as a person, from nutrient, to stress, to knowing your
body, and when to slow down or rest, and feeling that that is OK.
It was good to interact with others that suffer with FM. Didn't matter
where you were at, how many pain killers, etc you were taking, you
can still make change and be well.

I have been experiencing multiple pain symptoms for many years. I
visited many doctors, therapists, specialists and was diagnosed with
fibromyalgia. My opinion of most of them at that time was that they
did not know what they were talking about or they just did not care
and were just minimizing my feelings and pains. Most times I felt
worse coming out of their offices than when I went in.
Earlier this year I met Dr. Clarke, she validated what I was experiencing
was real and not in my head. I could attend a Fibromyalgia 12 week
recovery program and learn different ways to manage my FM. This program
has been beneficial to me. I have learnt how the brain, symptoms,
stress and other factors affect how FM affects me. I am now aware
of what makes symptoms flare up and I am equipped with the tools to
manage them. This program has educated me on many levels. I am more
into how my body works. I strive everyday to practise the knowledge
gleaned to make myself pain free and also a better human being. The
life lessons affected participants on an individual basis.
I am in control and my recovery depends on how I utilize the tools
this program provided. I recommend this program to FM/CFS sufferers.

I had started trying to take control of my fibromyalgia prior to attending this course and had made some improvements. Completing this course has helped me understand why some of what I had tried worked or didn't work, and has given me so much more than I could ever have imagined. I am feeling a lot better and am more able to understand why my body reacts the way it does and how to try to overcome it. I now look forward to living my life, instead of letting fibromyalgia control it for me.

"I am confident that I am on the road to recovery." Those are the words I did not or could not make before I started the Fibromyalgia 12 week Recovery Program. Instead, I used to say, "why me?" and "why not me?"
I was a skeptic when it came to the healing of mind, body and soul. I have always been the believer that God will only give you what you can handle. I still believe this, however, I do believe that he has also given me the power to make a choice of how I want to live my life, so I came to the course with an open mind to new thoughts of learning.
My world within the last 10 or so years has been of pain, frustration, and tears supplemented with painkillers, ointments and other herbal remedies. I trustingly tried them all and each one helped for a little while or showed no sign of improvement over time. I was led to believe that Fibromyalgia is something that I have to live with for the rest of my life. I thrived on any new article or information about Fibromyalgia I could lay my hands on to try and find a better way. I surrounded myself with people that struggled with their lives whether it was financial or family oriented. Initially this was to gain support by talking about my disease. This only brought me further down the road of destruction. Nothing seemed to bring me any closer to hope. The only thought in my mind was that I had to keep moving as if I didn't; I would surely lose everything that I had worked hard for or lose the little that I had left.
When I saw the advertisement in the paper that said there was a 12 Week Recovery Program being offered to fibromyalgia sufferers, I jumped at the chance to learn more. Now that the program is at an end, my skepticism has fallen and my hope and faith in self-healing is taking over. Having suffered for so many years, I believe that it won't go away overnight, but with hard work, hope and belief of recovery makes me take one step at a time, one day at a time.
Within the last 12 weeks, I have had new feelings or sensations that weren't present before. I strongly believe that my body is reorganizing to new beginnings and I am indeed on the road to recovery. My lifestyle has changed to include more awareness of nutrition and meditation. Visualization has been most beneficial in the process of my healing. Visualization is also priceless to those that can travel to their inner body, mind and soul and reap the benefits of a great journey without the cost of travel. It's easy to do once you know how and it can be adapted to any location at any time. The power of visualization is most empowering. I now strive to do other things that before I would have shied away from. I am avoiding negative energy and I am confident that when negativity is met in the future it can be used in a positive manner to head in a new direction and away from within my reach. I am more confident in presenting myself to others. Most importantly, I am in control and I am the only one who can change the way I feel in sickness and in health.
Thanks to Dr. Teresa Clarke and the Saturday support group for allowing me to reap the tools and knowledge to becoming a better me. If I had a drink in hand and was allowed and able to drink with this disease, I would toast to the future in wellness. Oh what the heck, "To Our Health! Salute!"
Susan
